OOC PERMISSIONS

[ Back-Tagging ] Yes—But I tend not to back-tag beyond the current month.
[ Thread-Hopping ] Yes—But ask first to make sure all participants agree.
[ Fourth-Walling ] No—It gets too complicated given that it effects others.
[ Action VS Prose ] Either—I use both and have no genuine preference.
[ Offensive Subjects ] None—But keep heavy sex-related topics to a minimum.

IC PERMISSIONS

[ Pranks & Theft ] Ask. As a judge, Yuri is neither very gullible nor trusting. Successfully pulling off any kind of prank with him as the intended target would be very difficult, and successfully stealing something belonging to him, be it information or property, would be twice as challenging. That said, I'm not personally opposed to the idea, so if either plot point happens to be something that you're interested in pursuing, just let me know.

[ Physical Affection ] Yes. On average, Yuri comes across as aloof and indifferent, so players of characters showing him any kind of physical affection shouldn't expect him to immediately reciprocate. In fact, it's much more likely that he'll be displeased with the gesture, particularly if characters haven't acquired his consent first. But for those whom he might genuinely feel some form of romantic affection towards? It's important to remember that Yuri is a gray asexual.

[ Physical Violence ] Ask. Yuri isn't liable to engage in fighting of his own accord, especially now that his identity as Lunatic has been made public knowledge, but if someone wishes to pick a fight with him for one reason or another, chances are I'll be okay with it. As always, he will only fight to kill those who have committed murder or those who obstruct his idea of justice.

[ Relationships ] Yes. Keeping in mind that while Yuri may enjoy caregiving, he remains a very distant and private partner in a relationship. Convincing him to be more responsive will take commitment, but those who stick to it will find that he can be quite devoted when he wants to be.

[ Mental Information ] Ask. Yuri does not possess any abilities that would protect him from having his mind read, though he is himself a strong-willed individual and not easily shaken. At his worst, however, Yuri suffers from persistent hallucinations and brief periods of self-loathing during which his mental state is undoubtedly weakened.

[ Magical Information ] No magic. Yuri is a NEXT whose super powers consist of advanced pyrokineses. Along with his identity as Lunatic, the nature of Yuri's abilities has been made public knowledge.

[ Offensive Subjects & Triggers ] Yuri is an incredibly guarded man who excels at masking personal discomfort, so all topics are up for discussion. That said, references to alcoholism and abuse may be the most sensitive, but he won't really give any indication that he would rather not talk about those things if he can help himself. He may also give long-winded speeches about legalities and justice if engaged.

POWER PERMISSIONS

EMPATHY is described as "the psychological identification with or vicarious experiencing of the feelings, thoughts, or attitudes of another." It is through empathy that we can come to better help and take care of each other, to understand what motivates perfect strangers, and to even separate fact from fiction. It is "the power to fully interpret and replicate the emotions, moods, and temperaments of others." And it does not come without consequences.

The phrase "empathy is a double-edged sword" is one often found circulating in academic and holistic communities for good reason. Empaths can, through the careful observation of the echoes of others' innermost feelings within themselves, identify and, to a certain degree, manipulate emotions. They can intuit what to do or say to make someone more comfortable, to assuage tempers or alleviate the tension in a room before it has the chance to explode. And they can also pinpoint the things that will trigger those explosions, deliberately setting them off if they wish. Of course, in doing so, they are not only harming others, but they are also harming themselves. Thus, it may not be far from the truth to suggest that evil—the very thing Yuri is determined to vanquish—is the absence of empathy, and empathy is itself a lesson in human morality. Making this new ability? The most perfectly suited and painfully ironic addition to his power set.

Having said that, there exist many different breeds of empath. Yuri in particular is best defined as low-level, and his abilities are as follows:
1) Provided he is within five meters of another person, he can detect and identify their emotions as well as tell if they are lying. This power does not work across digital mediums and is not infallible even person-to-person. Should someone believe with absolute certainty in the lie they are telling, Yuri will find it indistinguishable from the truth. He also will not be able to penetrate psychic shields, and powers that interfere with the mind may in fact weaken or completely disable his empathic ability.

2) Through great concentration and direct contact, Yuri can also utilize psychometry to re-experience the residual emotions or imprints that are attached to inanimate objects or places, sometimes involuntarily if the emotions in question are particularly intense.
Naturally, I won't be using either of these branches of empathy without first consulting other players, but if you would like to grant blanket permission or refusal, this is the place to do so! Similarly, if you'd like to discuss what to do in the event Yuri's power would work on your character but you just don't want them to, I'm more than happy to help think of a reasonable workaround, just let me know in the comments below!
